What to do in Tynemouth

Tynemouth is ideally placed for enjoying the North East of England.  The Metro system is a ten minute walk away linking you to Newcastle city centre.  Many of Northumberland's main attractions are within easy driving distance from the cottage.

  • The Long Sands - the main beach at Tynemouth.  Popular with surfers. 
    Try Crusoe's cafe right on the beach for morning coffee.
  • King Edward's Bay - a smaller beach set at the foot of the cliffs beneath Tynemouth Priory.
  • Tynemouth Castle and Priory- dating from the 7th century the Castle and Priory stand on an outcrop above King Edward's Bay offering views out towards the North Pier, over the Village and up river.
  • Tynemouth village - an increasingly popular weekend destination for the many cafes, restaurants, shops and bars.  Visit the flea market at Tynemouth Station at the weekends.  The Mouth of The Tyne Festival is held here each year. The 2008 festival is on 12 and 13 July.

  •  Collingwood's Monmument - dedicated to Lord Collingwood who fired the first shot at the Battle of Trafalgar and took comand of the British fleet after the death of Nelson.
  • Blue Reef Aquarium - giant ocean tanks with spectacular underwater walk-through tunnels offer unforgettable journeys.
